ANZAC 100
The Wellington Jewish community will be marking ANZAC Day and the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings this Shabbat with a couple of specific events at the Centre in addition to public commemorations in Wellington:
ANZAC yizkor prayers
A special El Male Rachamim (memorial prayer) will be recited during the Torah service during the Shabbat Shacharit service, in memory of all ANZACs and all those who laid down their lives in World War I.
A yizkor prayer will also be said beneath the Roll of Honour in the Myers Hall during the kiddush after the Shabbat Shacharit/Musaf service. The Roll of Honour records the names of members of the Wellington Jewish community who served in the two world wars.

Wellington Jews at Gallipoli book launch
After Shabbat goes out we will be launching the book Wellington Jews at Gallipoli – compiled from two chapters of A Standard for the People:
- ‘Wellington Jews at Gallipoli’ by Janet Salek.
- ‘The Jewish Flag: From Jerusalem to Wellington to Jerusalem’ by Professor Stephen Levine.
We recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the publication of A Standard for the People.
There will also be a display related to the Levy Bell, one of the Pukeahu National War Memorial carillon bells, donated by the Levy family in memory of their son who died in World War I.
